How it works

  • To begin. Every conversation starts with the same card: What do I hope this conversation gives us?
  • Three parts, one after another. With myself. With you. With life. Draw three or four cards from each, or as many as you like.
  • Write, then share. You both answer the same question. A few quiet minutes on paper first, then you talk.
  • To close. Every conversation ends with the same card: What am I glad we said out loud?

For anyone who shared some of your year.

For couples, siblings, friends, parents and children, or simply anyone who wants to talk about the past year together.

The second part is the most personal. You decide how deep it goes, and you may put any card back.

Questions

  • Do I need an app?

    No. The deck opens in your browser.

  • Is it only for the end of the year?

    No. The questions look back at the past twelve months, so it works any time of year. A birthday, an anniversary, a Sunday.

  • Can we use it more than once?

    Yes. On the same device, the deck shows you the cards you haven’t drawn yet first. After you’ve used the deck once, you can also see all cards at once.

  • How long does a conversation take?

    About an hour, sometimes longer. That’s up to you.
